I am known by many friends to be a little paranoid about my skin. It comes from a long line of Asians... not to be confused with Asian-Americans.
Asian-Americans grow up with the values of Western Culture: tan is thin, tan is beautiful. But what does it really do to your skin? Asians are paranoid about their skin's health and condition which might not be a bad thing. Yes, sometimes they go overboard and put that acid stuff on their face to be more white (like skin bleach?) but for the most part, they cover up or screen up.
Why is skin care so important?
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. More than 3.5 million skin cancers in over two million people are diagnosed annually.
Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common cancer in Caucasians, Hispanics, Chinese Asian and the Japanese.
Asian American and African American melanoma patients have a greater tendency than Caucasians to present with advanced disease at time of diagnosis.
More than 90 percent of the visible changes commonly attributed to skin aging are caused by the sun.
People who use sunscreen daily show 24 percent less skin aging than those who do not use sunscreen daily.
This video is beautiful- does it change your perspective on skin care and aging?
