Last Day in Taitung/Taimali

July 4th was our last day in Taimali with our grandparents from our mom's side.  Yi-ling has been studying for a big test so we took her to school today for the big day and wished her the very best of luck!  We then went to a local restaurant to eat ba-wan... it was so-so, definitely not as good as mom's.  A-ma wanted to take us out to shop for a bit at this "cool store with lots of fashionable clothes."  She was so excited!  Turns out, it was Hang Ten... lol  Clothes there are a bit young looking for me and Catherine, so we just hung out with her and A-gong while they bought a shirt for A-be (one of the a-gong's with the white hair and dark skin).

We came back to get things cleaned up and ready for our big dinner- this nice restaurant with Brian's favorite-- sashimi! Lots of pictures with food.... :)

We had to go back to Hang Ten to change the size of the shirts A-ma bought... so us children went to Working House- a furniture store for the modern eye (just next door).  They had some cute stuff!

I really like this chair...

The evening was spent getting things ready.  Cat and I made some home-made granola for the family to eat for breakfast- it was really fun, but soooo hot with the toaster oven (no, there is no conventional oven...) on.  We watched Paris Hilton's search for a BFF (LOL) while we made our delicious granola!

3 cups rolled oats (quaker oatmeal works fine, mixing it with granola bits is good, too)
1 14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk (this stuff is to die for....)
1-4 cups of anything you want to mix in it (nuts, dried fruit, chocolate, coconut, etc).

Preheat 350 degrees, make sure you grease/butter a 9x13 pan really well or else you're gonna have fun slaving away in the kitchen cleaning that off.  Mix all the ingredients well (using your hands is a good way, but if you like to keep clean like me, spoons work, too.  It just takes longer).  Spread flat onto pan and bake 20-25 minutes.  Make sure you COOL FOR 5 MINUTES.... otherwise, it just falls apart.  The lighter the bake color, the chewier (which makes the darker ones crunchy.... my fav).  After 5 minutes, cut and let cool before serving.  :)

Try it out!  You'll never have to go over budget buying granola bars for hikes, snacks, breakfasts, or get togethers.  :)
