Special thanks to Linda Ho, my dear friend, who was able to pull this event together. It was so well-thought-out and planned so far in advance it didn't even seem like we were planning for a big event.
Thanks to the participants who felt nervous for a whole 2 hours- you guys are the bravest people I know. Going into an auction, not knowing if anyone will bid on you, not knowing who will bid on you, then going out on a date with someone you may or may not know and making the best out of it.... you are all fantastic individuals. :) Thanks for helping YAAP raise some funds!
I'm so glad things turned out the way they did. Another successful event! However, fundraising is much harder than I thought it would be. Even though we put in so much work, the amount was diminished by the price of the food. Oh well, live and learn. [They provided us a good atmosphere, though. :) ]
Lessons learned from this fundraiser:
1. See if someone can sponsor the food & venue- it will help cut costs tremendously!
2. Seek help from the young professionals and funds from the established professionals and corporations (they're the ones who have money, anyway!). Plus, we're trying to give back the money to our members- why pull the money from them in the first place? It's hard to pull a young professional event that will draw the attention of established professionals, though...
3. Have a volunteer (besides the exec. board) be the event planner. It works out so well when it's someone on the fundraising committee.
4. Food is a major draw-in.... :)
5. People like to get dressed up-- provide more events for people to look hot and show off.
Now that we have more funding, we can start benefiting our members.... finally!
We also had some great pictures turn out. Thanks Chris Nguyen for letting us borrow your awesome camera and posting them asap... it makes everyone feel good. :)
